How about a progressive video montage?

This is through the first 400K. He reached that mark about a year and a half ago, then quit his driving job.

We've been dealing with doubters for years, and it's been proven time and time again in many threads and even official news articles.

lol.....lucky for me, no sores! I feel like the Yaris interior was designed with me in mind. I'm perfectly comfortable in it for long hours.

Or are you just taking no chances?

Why new sparkplugs every 50k when the manual calls for 100k?

Did you notice a drop in mileage?

Thanks and congratulations!
The battery showed signs of dieing about every year. So, I took no chances and had them replaced for free @ Wal-Mart. Technically, I've only paid for one battery since owning my Yaris.

Checking the spark plugs every 50k miles, showed visible signs of wear. Plus, I noticed my fuel efficiency got a little better every time I changed them.

Hmmm, with only 450,000 miles, I'd expect much less wear and tear.

Just kidding! Looks brand new. Remarkable.

You know, you are probably going to break some record if you keep this car another 10 - 20 years. Easily go over a million....shoot for two or three million.

The money you've saved in gas over a normal 25mpg car has probably paid for the car...
You've given me motivation to try for extra high mileage on my 08 sedan,
Usually i get rid of cars at the 200,000kms mark, this one will be going much further..

One of the reasons I bought the Yaris was because of its excellent MPG. I was using a 00 Mazda Protegé 1.6L Auto. The money I was saving by using the Yaris was enough to pay my monthly installments and insurance. I was saving about $900 a month by using the Yaris as opposed to the using Protegé.

And the fact that the Yaris sedan, in most dimensions, is larger than the Protoge' makes it all the more impressive.

Fantastic man! Your story has inspired me into getting a yaris as I put on a lot of km's every year with my work commute (not nearly as much as you but more than average) and I want something thats good on gas and very reliable.

I would just like to know if you did any fluid flushes as part of your regular maintenance, like transmission, coolant, brake..???

Any adjustments or inspections to the timing chain?

thanks!

I flushed brake fluid when I did my first brake job at 400k miles. I flushed coolant at around 425k miles. I flushed tranny fluid when I changed my clutch labor day weekend. And, no, I've never adjusted timing chain or inspected it.

Amazing!!! Just want to ask you one question: do you warm up the engine on your Yaris? I may seem to be paranoid, but I do that every time before I start driving, no matter what outside temperature is. I inherited this habit from my dad, though it's more important for the peace of my mind. So far I have 75000 miles with zero problems during those 6 years

I'll offer an opinion if you don't mind. Warming up today's vehicles is widely accepted to be mostly a waste of time and gas. Perhaps it benefited cars in the past but with modern cars, it's just not necessary. What is recommended though, is that you simply not over rev the engine while cold. Just drive normally until the "cool" light goes out, and then if you feel the need to push it, go ahead. Trust me, this engine will run forever without ever first warming it up.

Warming before you drive were done back in the day with carbureted cars that had a choke. Nowadays there's no need to warm up. But, just like Kal-El said, you just not over rev it until the engine has reached normal operating temperature, which is 130 degrees fahrenheit or until the cool light goes out.

450,000 miles @25 mpg = 18,000 gallons @ $3 gallon = $54,000

450,000 miles @40 mpg = 11,250 gallons @ $3 gallon = $33,750

a savings of nearly $20,000

This is why you want to do the math before buying a Prius!
