wtf is w/ ppl and dry filters these days? i had oiled filter on my xrs (both on an sri and cai) and NEVER had problems w/ oil on the MAF. i cleaned my filters twice a year in spring and fall and i consistently ran to 8200rpms......if oil was going to get sucked up the intake pipe at ANY point itd be doing 100mph at 8000rpm....i never had a problem

intake looks pretty sharp weeyari, im very interested to see the dyno sheets...

when it comes to doing things correctly, like oiling a filter, there are people that know what they're doing and people who do not. that is where the dry flow comes from.

Well my take on the dry vs oiled is that....from everyones opinion ..neither one outperforms the other. So why bother with the hassle of oil when you dont have to?

Define: outperforms

Many get caught up in how little restriction (more power?) a filter creates.
What about how effectively it removes dirt from the incoming air? Afterall, that is it's function.

Food for thought:

Dust clings to the oiled K&N filter. K&N may flow more air due to a looser fibre creating less restiction while relying on the oil to hold the dust particles. Best of both worlds???
What makes an aftermarket dry filter any more effective than the stock (dry) filter Toyota provides?
If the aftermarket item flows better (less restriction, more HP) then it likely has a more open, breathable media which may filter less = more HP & more engine damage.
Of course scientific testing would be required to compare all the choices for both restriction values and IMO more important use commuters filtration (engine life). I'm sure this research has been done by someone. Getting access to examine that data may be a challenge.

NOTE: TRD's drop-in filter strongly resembles that of K&N and uses oil. The cone filter on the TRD intake system also appears to be a K&N type. I wouldn't be surprised if K&N didn't supply TRD with their orange bodied filters.

aFe claims slightly more power with their oiled filter (Pro 5R) than with their dry filter (Pro Dry S). They have dynos to back it up.

Whether or not the small gain is worth it for the maintenance required is up to you.

It was actually supposed to have been dyno'd last night. Gerry had to cancel last minute due to family situation. Waiting now for a reschedule.

that's not how it works

any gain is a ratio of restriction before and after the new part added.. if the FIT has a more restrictive intake than the yaris from the factory it'll show more gains. hondas benefit greatly from bolt-ons because they come with such restrictive intake/exhaust setups

Dyno'd on MUSKOKAs sedan. Printed copy of chart won't scan in worth shit, but will have electronic version sent to me later.

In a nut shell:
- base line stock 97.15 whp/101.77 ft-lbs torque
- with intake 101.12 whp/104.07 ft-lbs torque

Graph shows nice even gains throughout the power curve.
