CTScott, just so you know - my crank signal is tapped. I tried to intercept it and the car wouldn't start. This make sense - the FIC only needs to see the crank signal, not manipulate it.

As for the MAF - that definitely is a problem (although I'm sure I don't need to be the one to tell you that lol).

On a side note: I'm bummed you didn't come down to Jersey for help Adrian. You could have delivered that kit I'm still hoping to buy from you

So, your NE+ (pin 122 of the ECM) is tapped as well as the NE- (pin 121)?

sorry to run this on two forums, but it helps everyone I think:

Boomslang:

Cps ne- is the crank timing ground. It is supposed to be spliced into, not intercepted. Same goes for the cam timing ground.

We worked with AEM on the CKP/CAM/timing ground wiring on the newer Toyotas back in 2007 before the FIC was readily available. We’ve made a couple thousand Toyota/Scion harnesses since.

MAF output is light green, same color as the extension portion of the harness, it blends right in.

If I remember correctly, I tapped the MAGI+ and MAGI- wires to crank + and crank ground respectively, and the MAGO wires (+ and -) were left unused.

EDIT: What Garm quoted makes perfect sense as well. Basically just try all three methods until you get one to work. I don't understand why intercepts didn't work for me but whatever - taps work.

Oh yeah and Adrian - I hate to say I told you so but... Well, I did.

This might explain my starting issue. I'll pull my harness this weekend and take some pics.

How does the FIC retard timing if the crank signal isn't intercepted? Does it also intercept the 4 ignition signals?

It only connects to the injectors, CAM, Crank, and MAF. There is no direct control over spark, just timing via intercept of the crank (if it is wired in intercept mode).

That's what I thought. That's why I don't understand people's problems with it wired in series with the FIC.

I finally had a chance to double check my wiring today. It turns out I intercepted the positive crank wire, and tapped the negative. Same with the cams. I also verified ignition can, in fact, be adjusted.

Well that is an interesting story. Apparently they had heat soaked the motor to the point that while on the dyno during his first pulls the car was going rish and then super lean at around 52-5400. During the 3 days he had my car he did 28 dyno pulls. On the evening before I came back to the shop he took the car out and did a road test. When he did that he was noticing that he was able to get to around 6100 before it would do the same thing. Alex wasn't surprised because of course a dyno is not the road. He made some final adjustments and didn't soak the motor as deeply and then took it out for another test drive immediately. He was still being able to run up to 6k. He also feels that I am actually around 180-185HP on the road. I picked up the car late yesterday afternoon and drove it the 420 miles home. The car ran great for the most part. I know that I have some work still left to be done to have it as close to perfect that an F/IC can get it. My plans are still to go with a stand alone down the road. The F/IC is merely a stepping stone. He said that he could not confirm for sure that once I upgrade my fuel system whether or not it will net more power, but he feels that it could because the car is still producing power when he lets off at the 5900/6000rpm point.

Awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing that one when it's finished up.

BTW I bought a machine gun instead of a subwoofer, lol.
