Stock Yaris TS Turbo TRD - Gains in HP and stock engine limit

Hi guys

Thanks for a great forum with vast knowledge within.

I've just bought a stock Yaris TS Turbo TRD from Stockholm.

I'm interested in knowing if there are any straightforward gains in HP and the limitations of the internals of the engine.

I'm no power hungry guy, I'm just looking for around 30-50 HP reliable gains on top of the stock 150 HP. Keyword here is reliable, as it is my daily driver.

I think aftermarket parts are very hard to find, given the rarity of the car. I'm looking for a FMIC as one of the first things on my to-do list.

What kind of bar/psi is it running stock?
Can the engine on stock internals handle a 30-50 HP gain?
Is a simple chip tuning enough?

I'm very thankful for any answers.

Man, I so want your power.

1.8l factory turbo generating 150hp vs the 1.5l n/a generating 106hp that we have to play with. Consider yourself fortunate to have such a desirable starting point.

Sorry I cannot help you on what you can do to achieve your end game. I'd hazard a guess that stock internals are enough to handle at least an additional 30hp given that we push our 1.5l to 140hp on stock innards.

It is the 1.5 litre 1nzfe engine that I have :) It is just tuned by TRD with a bolt on turbo kit.

Really? I guess I'd gotten to the point where I assumed the TS was always 1.8l.

Now I'll have to say internals are maxed out.

intake, exhaust, bigger intercooler, boost controller and a tune definitely. The turbo starts to run out of steam at about ~175hp though.

180-200 is probably the limit to a stock internals 1NZ. That being said, it's all in how well it's tuned. A front mount intercooler and a good tune, with the relocation of the Intake Air Temp sensor to the actual charge pipe will lead to the most reliable addition of power without getting into the engine.

If the car is already turbo-ed, I suspect you won't get much more than another 10hp or so, by conventional measures. Also Toyota ECUs are usually locked against chip upgrades. Maybe with a turbo's piggy-back ECU that's different.

150hp in a small, light car, like a Yaris, must really fly!
