Used 2012 Yaris - good buy or should I avoid?

Hey there! This 2012 Yaris came up near me for a good price 5,995 but my friend said I should probably avoid because it was a rental the first 2 years and rental companies don't really take care of their cars. What do you think based on the car fax - https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...KTUD36CD526660

I kind of want a sedan anyways but trying to decide if I should check it out or just hold out for a sedan Yaris with a better history. Thanks

I rarely base a purchase decision on a carfax report/CarProof report. Record keeping is spotty and damaged vehicles are repaired all the time (off the books) and never appear on a report. I bought one car that had a clean report. Months later, I discovered that it had been in an accident. Nothing major, but could have been. Your report shows a long oil change interval by the first owner, but it may well have had an oil change and not made the books. I've never heard of a rental company - at least a reputable one - letting oil changes slide.

I have every intention of buying a used rental van when we replace ours. Generally, rental companies take much better care of vehicles than the average consumer.

I would take the car to a reputable shop and pony up a few bucks for a thorough inspection. And, then base your decision on that.

Two of my five Yarii were previous fleet or rentals. I'm sure I beat them worse as taxis than what they went through there.

Thanks for input! I will have a mechanic look at it before buying regardless

How did they hold up over time? Did you have to do a lot of repairs or no?

Best vehicle in my 37 years of vehicle ownership, new or used, is my 2006 ex rental that I purchased in 2007. It is a misconception that rentals are beat to hell and not properly maintained.

They are often sold before first maintenance is due.

Rentals often sees its limit right off the lot, but I don't think it really matters nowdays where most engines are reliable.

Well, I've put 30,000 miles on my 2014 Yaris using it only for taxi type stuff and it's been 100% reliable.
