Do stp cleaners work?

Well today there was a sale at a local gas station on fuel additives made by stp
The cleaners were a $1 each so I bought two different ones since that was all that was left on the shelf by the time I got there.

I bought 1 Super concentrated fuel injector cleaner(black bottle)
1 complete fuel system cleaner

I plan on using the complete cleaner on my yaris and the fuel injector for my dads truck

the bottle says it treats 21galons and I know the yaris has 11 so I plan on using half the bottle (correct me if I shouldn't)

do these things really work or should I give them away?
(I plan to use it on my yaris b/c I don't know how well the car was maintained before I bought it) and if it helps my tank is only missing one bar, almost full

SHELL V-Power and the TECHRON work well . STP , haven't used that in years . There's also BG products . Can find that at TOYOTA parts departments , http://www.bgprod.com/products/products.html .

I use Lucas for the diesel. Have not tried on the Yaris yet.

I used to use STP products for my 86 escort when I had it in the early 90s. did the job back then, have no idea now.

Most gasolines sold today have injector cleaners as part of the additive package. This makes off-the-shelf additives somewhat redundant.

I don't use fuel system cleansers, octane enhancers, fuel conditioners, and gas treatment products. I do use gasoline fuel stabilizers for ethanol gas.

Do fuel injector cleaners fix a rough idle and a bad fuel average?

I just did a bottle of techron on my 19,000 2010 yaris HB automatic

what happened was:

-for that 1 tank, gas mileage dropped

-almost immediately, throttle response improved

-throttle response continued to stay 'peppier'

It surely had to do something to clean my injectors. My yaris
never ran bad...I just figured throw in some bg44k or techron and techron
was what I found first. it does work.

next 20,000 miles I'll do another bottle

Just curious, did your gas mileage improve after that 1st tank went down?

i put techron in mine about a month ago when it started feeling a lil sluggish... didnt pay any attention but it does feel like i'm not at the gas station as much... def faster and smoother... 1st time i put techron in it it felt quicker but the 2nd time was even better... i think they say it works best after 2 bottles (not at the same time)... the only bad thing about it is that it only lasts for about a month and then slowly starts to change... someone on amazon said Lubro-Moly Jectron fuel injector cleaner lasts a lot longer... i'll probably check that 1 out next

it seems to be the same, back to normal. but throttle response remains snappier.

I must have had some slight buildup on injectors.

This must be more noticeable on small engines, as my 5VZFE, which has 190,000 miles on it, I never felt the need
to put anything but gas in the tank since 1999.

This may sound very stupid, but bare with me, I'm a car novice, but is it safe to use cleaners? My Yaris only has 16,000 on it(2010) and as much as it would be nice to use a cleaner, I'm scared of ruining the car. When I was younger, my parents used a cleaner in their 1980's Pontiac and it killed the engine.

+1. Tried it once and it actually improved my rating by only 3 miles per tank, though it may have been somewhat unnecessary because I'm only at 75K on the original fuel pump and filter. Suppose someone with higher mileage could give you a better opinion maybe?

a) no risk

it is completely safe to use auto parts store or walmart cleaners that go into the tank only,

b) some risk

the cleaners that have you in the engine bay sucking into the throttle body could damage the motor if done completely incorrectly (dumped all in at once), either by hydrolock or other extreme pressure situation, or thinning of the motor oil and causing extra wear or failure
