Here in Texas we have to get our cars inspected every year at a state approved station (private businesses that get the certification). The first time I had to do this I did it on the last day (hurried) and went to a jiffy lube type place. The tech said that my wipers didn't pass and presented me with the cost to replace them. I said forget it, I'll go buy some, put them on myself, and come back. The tech ended up lowering the price to a bit above what it would be if I bought them myself. The tech left to do the work. There was a fellow customer, an older gentleman, smiling and sitting in one of the seats in the waiting room. he had just pbserved the exchange between me and the tech. He said that this is a common racket when they see (re no previous inspection sticker) a person coming in from another state. He said most of the time the new person just accepts the jacked up price. He said what one always wants to do is replace all blades right before driving to the inspection....and I have done just that ever since.

Replaced my original rear wiper blade today. Bought the refill from the dealer for a bit more than $5. Easy exchange and it works perfectly.

The 'just that' I referred to in post #19 is buying the blades myself and physically replacing them myself (as you did). Wow, just over 5 bucks is cheap for a Toyota dealership. According to Wikipedia, Florida doesn't have any emissions or safety inspections for passenger cars. Wow. I wish we (those of us in Texas) could avoid that expense. Fortunately, our car registration is based on the year of the car and not on how much you paid for the car. I looked at the Florida DMV site and the registration fee is based on weight.....not flat like Texas (but close in cost) and not like the highway robbery of California and some other states that base the fee on the price of the vehicle. One of the things I don't like about the inspections in Texas is that the inspectors have to record and report the odometer reading on the car to the state. This is too Orwellian for my taste.

Toyota part number 85214-31010 I broke down too, bought at local dealer $3.26 + .23 tax= 3.49 OTD. Almost 2 years old, yet I felt it never did move water unless only in HEAVY downpour rain.

Strange. I use mine literally every time it rains. And no, having a spoiler doesn't affect how much water gets on the back window - I've experience with both having a spoiler and not having one.

On the same recent day that I sat in a Prius C at my local Toyota dealer I also priced the wiper blade rubber inserts (just for the heck of it) -- just under $6 for the rear plus tax ($5.71 plus tax I think it was) and just under $17.00 plus tax for two rubber inserts for the windshield wipers.
