Horsepower in a can
Just wanted to pass some information along. Was at the Parts store today and happened to see some CRC Mass air flow cleaner and thought I would give it a try since my car has almost 70k figured it couldn't hurt. The bottle said 4-10whp and I doubt I got any of that but, wow did it make a difference in throttle response and overall the car seems to run smoother. Thought I would just put this information out there.

this is the only horsepower in a can that is actually valid
the MAF will build up contaminants indefinitely and must be cleaned on a regular basis. the buildup is from engine shutdown, and the last crankcase vapors coming out of the PCV valve float around and deposit in the MAF. gotta get that crud off |

I've got some MAF cleaner sitting in my garage, only at 20k on my Yaris but shouldn't hurt to clean it anyway. just hadn't thought of it yet.

Cleaned mine at 60K miles. Didn't notice a damn bit of difference.
@bkndacn, remove MAF and spray with product. Reinstall MAF. http://www.microimageonline.com/foru...ir-flow-sensor

yes but technically you should disconnect battery
I have pulled toyota MAFs about 20 times and never disconnected battery and never had a problem -except- when the reason I pulled it was a MIL...need to reset the ECU if the MAF popped a MIL for best results after reinstall of the MAF |

Hm. I know Toyota isn't the best about their MAF sensors getting crud on them (3.4 v6 anyone?), but I was dubious of this. I may have to try it. I expect it's even more pronounced when you have a high-flow air filter with oil in it.

Did this the other day after I got a CEL code for the sensor. I have noticed a great increase my ability to pick up speed a lot faster, although at the same time I also removed my 60/40 seats. Either way, I highly recommend.

I've got a K&N and when I took out the MAF, not only was the intake tube clean and dry, the MAF sensor didn't look dirty at all. I still gave it a shot of cleaner and it does seem as if the engine runs slighty better. Could be a placebo effect though.
