Who's Laughing Now?
After driving my new 09 Yaris off the lot and straight to a get together with friends; I was informed later that they all had a good laugh at my 'tiny new car'.
I ran into the informant at the gas station and there we were filling our tanks at $2.46 per gallon and I looked over at his 20MPG VW and asked, "Who's laughing now?". |

That comment in the mileage forum was my attempt at humor
I'm not going to nurse the gas though. I'm just going to drive like I always have which means I expect to get 30-37 MPG. All my laughing buddies have vehicles in the 20MPG range. From what I'm seeing so far, if I wanted to burn rubber all over town in this car I'd still be in the high 20s so I'd still be saving big bucks at the pump. Compared to what most people drive, the Yaris driver wins with a substantial margin no matter how heavy their foot is. |

open diff + 6500rpm + clutch drop = very smoky burnout, albeit a little pathetic

Wait til gas hits around $3.50- $4.00 then the looks turn to admiration and jealousy...

Unfortunately, I have "PROOVED" in another thread that both Consumer Reports and Edmunds are on crack as they both rate the Kia Rio higher than the Yaris. Nuff said.

I did my research before deciding to get a yaris.
I "looked" at them all in its class but, I kept comming back to the Yaris. The clincher was I have a friend who has a Yaris as a second vehicle and for commuting, exactly what I want it for and he loves it for what it is. What he kept telling me is, only listen to "users " opinions, not to the "professional" revewers. So let them laugh. I wiil be laughing when at the gas pump, etc. |

I owned a Kia rio5 and it is a better riding, better handling car with better interior build quality. The Kia engine is a let down as is the shifter. I like my Yaris better myself - and that's all that matters to me. I does handle a bit sloppy though. I got to get struts/springs and sway bars upgrades fast...Oh, I gotta get a job first -crap!

I have many folks ask if the Yaris is a hybrid. I say no but that it gets close to all the hybrids in MPG. Except the Yaris is a much cheaper option money wise.
