Using other OEM headunits?
I think ive seen other people use later model toyota/scion decks in their Yaris' and was wondering how interchangeable are they?
Im quite happy with my stock unit...however I can my hands on an FRS unit and was considering trying to make it work as I believe its got bluetooth and that would be nice as I use internet radio alot on my phone. Just curious if this is a feasible option?

I believe it is. I was looking for some Scion OEM head units to swap into my Echo and it seems they share some main plugs with the Toyota ones, other cables must be purchased in order to get the most out of those stereos, like the iPhone cable for example, not to mention that particular one from the FR-S is a great option because it has pre-amp RCAs (front, rear and Subwoofer).
I looking for this one though. Has BT connectivity, HD radio, CD player and even pre-amp for a subwoofer. And with some aftermarket cables you can use the AUX function, mic for hands-free calls and iPhone mode. Can be found on eBay for ~70 bucks and even cheaper on OfferUp.

Found one of those stereos, model T1819 for 40 bucks. I'll post some pics when I have it.

I installed sound ordnance speakers in mine within the first year of buying the car...definitely better then stock but i know they could use some power. The fronts I installed components.
Ive been rocking it otherwise stock for 6years now, stock deck just works well. Just would like updated features

I really like the look of this one! I'm looking for something tasteful to replace the Eclipse TomTom nav unit that I bought a few years ago. Looks like it's a double DIN unit, so I don't even need the side fillers! I keep getting this backwards. The OEM units are slightly wider than a double DIN unit. I've currently got the OEM double din surround, so I'd have to get the original, non-integrated OEM surround to be able to use this one.

I think you'll have no problems at all installing this in your car. All OEM stereos, including the Scion ones are double DIN spec for all Toyotas. You don't have to use the side fillers, so you're fine.
Mine's a 1st gen US Echo, so I think i'll get through just nicely installing this. I'll post a step by step install when I get my hands on it.
