Huh at this rate gas will be back at $4 a gallon and it will only be costing the suppliers $80 per gallon instead of $110...

I paid $3.25 9/10 today in Manteca, CA. I checked San Ramon, Pleasanton, Dublin, Liverrmore, Tracy. Manteca, Lathrop, and Stockton....all on Gas Buddy. The $3.25 9/10 I paid was the cheapest credit card price out of all 8 of those cities. This is 12 cents more per gallon than I paid a week ago, and 20 cents more per gallon than the cheapest credit card price for the same cities a week ago on Gas Buddy.com.

On business travel in VT this week. Drove here with my 93 Rolla beater. 190k mile rust bucket and avg 34.5mpg on summer gas

An interesting thing is that normally once I get even 50 miles south of Caribou fuel prices traditionally drop 10-12 cents per gal however not right now. It has stayed within a few cents of 2.60 over a 450 mile distance.

I paid $3.28 9/10 in Stockton, CA today (3 cents more than I paid on my last fill up on 5/6 at a different station). A few blocks before the station, the beat up van alongside me blatantly ran a red light right in front of the Stockton Police headquarters building (tons of police cars outside....but not a soul in sight), and then stopped at the next light . Yesterday, in Pleasanton, I saw something that might be non existent in other parts of the country.....a Tesla sedan with manufacturers plates.

Eaerly this morning on one of the cable channels a reporter was saying that the national average right now is $2.74 per gallon for 87 octane. This reporter was standing in front of a gas station in Los Angeles, and the sign behind him displayed $4.15 9/10 per gallon for 87 octane. I paid $3.27 9/10 last night in Tracy, CA (2nd cheapest credit card price re 8 cities...San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, Tracy, Lathrop, Manteca, and Stockton). The cheapest was in Manteca, but that station is also a car wash and closes quite early. In my normal 'gas station area' near my house in Texas, I would have paid $2.25 9/10 per gallon of 87 octane .

I believe mid 4's is the highest its ever been around here. You can get about 3.88 at Costco right now.

Gas has settled in at around $2.39 for about a month now here in South Jersey.

HOWEVER a disturbing rumor going around is NJ is going to make us pump our own gas now after years of mandatory the station must pump the gas. As you may know our gas prices are LOWER than surrounding states, who must pump their own. Even though stations in NJ must PAY people to pump the gas! Whasupwitdat!!! I fear prices are going to go UP despite the seeming contradiction!!!

Stay tuned!

On the good side it takes LONGER for someone to pump your gas so that will be a consolation. Also, I shudder to think of the jobs LOST and the hardship that will cause to our already FUBAR economy if this comes to pass!

We are now pretty much settled in at 2.79 a gal. Been there for about a month I think.

Sorry, but....... I wouldn't want to live in your state, but I do like to visit (and stay there re trips...especially trips by CAR.....to the NYC metro area). I absolutely hate having someone else pump my gas (can't fill to my usual 'where I can start to see gas in the neck' point ). I'll either try to pick the farthest away from the 'hut' pump at a sparsely manned station at night, or (if convenient) I'll just get gas in NY state and pay more.

My understanding (from someone who works for Hess) is that the lower (than surrounding states) gas prices in New Jersey exist because of lower taxes...nothing to do with who is pumping the gas. The same person told me that NJ makes up for lower taxes on fuel with higher 'sin taxes' than surrounding states (on alcohol and cigarettes, IIRC). Your state, and Oregon, are the only U.S. states with this 'we must keep the pump jockeys employed in their customary positions' way of thinking .

Further enhancement indicates that's only a hopeless quest by elements in the state legislature.

Your right about the tax thing...something else that also was cleared up for me.

You would find the interviews I saw on the news last night hilarious! (or maybe they need a good caneing! )

The public was saying they want their gas pumped by an attendant because:

Its a "luxury" they don't want to give up!

They don't want the smell of gas on their hands!

They don't want to get out of their warm (or cool) car!

They came across as a bunch of selfish whimps!
