Reverse gear?
Hi everyone,
I've just bought a 2003 1.0 Yaris. Is there anything that will prevent me from accidentally shifting into reverse when I'm driving? Im worried because Ive only just passed my test and the reverese gear is under fifth gear and I dont have to press a button to get into reverse. |

Not really. Just take it easy until you get used to it-- then it'll be like riding a bike. Oh, just don't go speed racer/fast and furious thinking you have a 6 speed manual and you'll be fine.

you cannot shift directly from 5th to reverse. you MUST pass back into neutral before reverse will engage
don't worry, you'll be fine

wow, i'm surprised 3/4 of the people on this thread did not that you cannot directly go into reverse from 5th (or from any gear at all)

What if you have a automatic, will you be able to shift back to reverse while driving?
I know that would be totally stupid to do so and no one should attempt, but just thought to ask.

Just memorize the position of the gears and try to remember that after 5th , that's as fast as the car's going to go! ;)
Seriously, it takes a little bit of work to go into reverse. You shouldn't have to force to get the car back in 4th. |
