rim fitment with stock tires 175/65/15

how wide are stock steelies? 5.5"? 6"?

would stock rubber wrap around a 7" wide rim without stretching too much? even if it stretches, how well do stock rubbers respond to stretching?

What size are your tires? I have 185/60 and that is not a stretch 185mm is 7.3".

on the 2012s, stock tires are 175/65/15s i think? have to double check outside...

Yea that wont be a problem. I ran 195/50 on an 8" and just ordered new 175/50s to run on that 8". That's a stretch.

Yeah, something with that big of a profile isn't going to stretch. Furthermore, I personally wouldn't even try stretching tires that have been mounted and used on another set of rims already.

Profile is thickness, so the 65 mm is going to be hard to stretch, the rubber is going to want to stand up instead of lay down.

I disagree with his comment about stretching used tires. I have seen it done multiple times. I think his stance is that the tire has flexed, worn, and molded into a certain shape based on how it has previosuly rolled. Now you are trying to force it into a different conflicting shape.

Profile is the side wall size. So taking 175/65/15 for example:

175 is the width of the tire measured in millimeters (mm).
65 is the side wall size in regards to the first number. It is not measured in mm, but in %, so 65% of 175mm is the side wall profile.
15 is the rim size measured in inches.


Being such a large profile, stretching it will take a rather wide rim as there is more rubber to "stretch."


But yes, tires get broken in, so if it is used on a properly fitting rim and is aged, the side walls may have started cracking, so stretching it would not be safe.

thanks for clearing that up lazagna! the main thing i'm concerned with is whether or not my stock tires would stretch on a 7" wide rim, and according to 1.5, i should be ok. :)

You won't have to worry about stretching you stock tires onto a 15x7 wheel. It will be very minor. Here are my pics for reference. Hope this helps.
