Underdrive Pulley Belt

Im fairly new to knowing what certain parts of my car are. So just a quick question to those who have the NST Underdrive Pulley. I've had my Underdrive pulley for 2 months maybe, and whenever i start up my car...i think its my belt that sounds a little loose. It does not however sqweel or anything. The car drives fine and there is no worrying sounds to be heard when accelerating.

The question is im looking at getting a shorter belt sometime so i don't have to have it at almost the max tensioner setting. For those who have a shorter belt, what is the belt called? and what length did you buy?

Thanks in advance

There shouldn't be any need for a shorter belt with that pulley. Have you re-tensioned it? I have a few thousand miles on mine with no problems, but I did re-tension it once.

Hi Mike,

Was wondering if you were able to answer a question for me.

I got my Underdrive Crank Pulley installed by my mechanic about a month or more ago now. But recently when i start up my car it sounds abit loose i think, well that or the engine has always been abit noisey anyway.

Just a general question, whats the belt called that drives the crank pulley? I need to get a shorter belt as mine is actually on the max tensioner setting. And was wondering if you knew what length was the best for the belt that drives that part. Im looking at buying a new shorter one.

Cheers
Hi Ruimond,

You should not need a shorter belt. The OEM belt works well with the Underdrive Pulley we offer.

However, belts are normal wear and tear items and they do wear out and stretch over time. You may be due for a belt change if yours has outlived the life expectancy.

Try a local auto parts store and buy the highest quality "crank pulley/ accessory belt" you can find for your car.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'll look at getting it re-tensioned first. The mechanic that put it on, im not sure if he re-tensioned it, i know he just adjusted the belt setting to almost the end because the underdrive is smaller so it had more slack in the belt.

Does re-tensioning require you to do something else?

Not sure if im due to change my belt as Mike said, i've only got about 33,000+km's on my car. But i'll get that looked into as well.

there's a special tool, looks like a giant screwdriver that you use to adjust belt tension.

Really? Mine was adjusted almost to the maximum. Maybe yours came with a shorter belt to begin with. Haha.

factory belt is 25-040465 gates number.
040=4ribs, 465=47" length.

25040460 46 5/8
25040450 45 3/4
napa #'s, around $23 ea.

there's no reason you can't go shorter if you're unhappy with your current adjustment possibilites.
