My '08 sedan (Canada) doesn't have any hood insulator. Perhaps they're for hot climates? Do they protect the hood paint from high engine compartment temperature damage or are they just noise dampeners???

Every vehicle I have ever owned had one in it. I think it's the keep from cooking the paint.

The paint can handle the heat, I think Toyota is just being cheap...

huh ? i bought my 08 LB RS in Canada B.C. , it comes with a hood insulator. that's strange.

Toyota is being cheap for installing them?

any insulation I have seen was strictly used as a flame-retardant. The heat is not an issue for the paint whatsoever.

I had a 96 Pontiac Grand AM that caught on fire in the engine compartment. After opening the hood and putting it out with a fire ex. I noticed that the insulator was burnt to a crisp. So not all of them are flame-retardent.
