$400-450 would be a really nice price range for rods. Any pics of pieces already made? I'd like to see the design.

The Pauter custom rods I had made were less than the Crowers but more than that.

my opinion is 200+ only. I've been runnin 183 whp on stock rods for about 9 months now.

i broke one on a bone stock engine with about 40K on it... the high rev's kills them.

when you break a rod you'll destroy your engine block..

so you might as well buy a spare longblock now and build it up

General Info:
Toyota followed similar lines with the 4E-FTE as they did with the 3E-TE. Thus the 4E-FTE is basically a 4E-FE with stronger connecting rods and lower compression pistons. It also has a harmonic damper instead of a normal crankshaft pulley. However, it does share the same head with the 4E-FE, 1st gen 5E-FE, and 5E-FHE. It produces the most stock horsepower of any E series engine.
Over time this has become a very popular engine to swap into Tercels and Paseos due to its high stock power output. It is also known to be capable of handling much more power without upgrading stock internals.

Similar / Interchangable Parts:
Camshafts: 1st gen 5E-FE, 5E-FHE (slightly higher lift / duration)
Valvetrain: 1st gen 5E-FE, 5E-FHE
Head: 1st gen 5E-FE, 5E-FHE
Pistons: 1st gen 5E-FE (higher compression), 5E-FHE (higher compression), 2nd gen 5E-FE (higher compression)
Connecting Rods: 4E-FE (downgrade)

i had a picture of one that was too big to post but the guys from gtspec/wingsperformance had 2 in their shop and said it was a no-brainer to put in my car......

ok noob question. So if I'm planning on building a turbo motor all I need is bottom end parts ( crankshaft, rods, pistons, sleeves )? No head parts? And with all this upgrade parts how much boost can these parts and motor take? :)

well, essentially, if you want (a lot) more boost, you gotta eliminate the "weakest links" in your engine, in this case, the rods. It's also good to uprate the rest of the bottom end, since that's where there's the most stress from the higher compression.

You don't even really neeed to change out any bottom parts if you go for a sensible amount of boost. When we talked to the local TRD guys here, they only recommended pushing the engine to about 140hp on stock internals. But, others have been pushing the 1NZ way past that, and results may vary. I think Tamago's gone through a couple engines already with his ghetto setup

The top end is relatively strong by comparison, making modifications to the head of most engines is related mostly to airflow and timing.

How much boost you can run, in the end? well, we'll have to wait for cali yaris to tell us, and he won't be happy til he sees 300whp And, the more money you throw at a project like this, the higher the results you can see... FYI, 80's F1 cars used 1.5L turbo engines producing over 1000hp. Of course they were of a very different construction than our economy engines!

actually, no, just a transmission and set of axles :) the engine is fine! the one i broke before was stock
