ah, hmmm, once you get up to speed, back off the throttle to the point where, if you were taking off in first gear, you would be accelerating slowly.

On the freeway, my instant mpg ranges from 40-60mpg simply because I keep my throttle at 24% and let the road determine my speed. I'll only speed up if my speed dips down to 55mph and let off the gas once I get to 75-80mph. My average speed in my usual Sac to Bay Area commute (about 65-70 miles) is 65-70 mph, usually averaging 45-50 mpg.
Does that include 90MPH+ runs to make up for the time you are stuck in traffic? (Just Kidding)

My car is 09 hatch 5spd. with 80+k miles. I dd the crap out of it, but lately I started hating the MPG. Any ideas what could caused it? I bought car new and I used to get 39MPG my best for the full year. And now I'm getting 25-28??? I do regular maintenance, changed air filter like 2 mos. ago. Flushed all fluid, change oil filter on a regular routine. All the general stuff. Should i switched to a thicker oil now since she got she got some miles on her? Also, I only fill her with Chevron 89 octane since day one.

With that much of a drop, you probably have something else going on..BUT...if you haven't replaced the battery, replacing it might help a bit....even if the current battery is holding a charge.

I have a '08 Yaris 5spd 2dr. hatchback with less than 80K miles on it.
I have been getting around 36mpg in winter and 40mpg in summer.
The best I've gotten so far is just over 42mpg.

Yeah i already replaced the battery. It died on me like a month ago. But the drop on mpg is really bugging me now. I drove from la to ventura with a full tank of gas today and not using the ac at all. Half a tank took a dumped?? Traffic is not even bad, thats about 1.5 hours drive one way. I already check my fuel tank thinking theres a leak. But damn.. Really contemplating on trading this sucker to a truck instead, since same sh*t i spend on gas...Smh

Btw, this car is all stock. Not a single engine mod

Yea, if you were driving from Beverly Hills or Bel-Air to Studio City going up through one of the canyons, crossing Mulholland Drive and heading down to Ventura Blvd, rather than taking a freeway (repeatedly, and only doing that drive), THEN I can see your MPG MIGHT decrease as you've described...but not driving from LA to Ventura. You might want to have your gas tank looked at to rule out any damage.

Just did a fill ... and got 635KM with 36.660 Litres. (Pretty typical for me lately, but down just slightly from where I would like to be) This equates to 5.77 L/100 KM or 40.76 MPG US.

I filled it up with Shell Gold V Power (no ethanol) as I want to see if I get better mileage with the Ethanol free gasoline. Guess in about 2 weeks I will see if it is worth the extra $5.50 that I paid for it. The car does seem somewhat peppier with the ethanol free gas (91 Octane compared to 87 Regular) .. so I shall see how things work out.

Too much Yarisworld surfing while tired in the last few days. First I put the wrong conversion number for liters into my calculator when trying to figure out in USD and US gallons how much edmscan is paying for gas, and then I suggest you have your tank checked for leaks when you already stated in your post that you did.

I sure will post on my results. Should be about 2-3 weeks for this tank. It was $1.349 compared to $1.199 per litre for regular gas, so an extra 15 cents per liter .. or about 57 cents a gallon more for the Ethanol free gas. I don't think it will be a regular thing, but I want to see if it makes a difference. I would have to get about 60 extra km's per tank for it to be financially worthwhile.

No worries. That was my first instinct when I noticed the drop on MPG. If I don't find a fix. This car will turn into a prius. Hehe

Not so true especially since you are stock you would be running lean so you would be starving for fuel then I love how good the car is on mpg and that includes being boosted. In July when it was almost 90 here and I ran 11 runs at the LSRs at of course the 120+mph range for a mile of each run (so 11 miles at over 120mph) I still averaged over 28+mpg! I could not have been happier. Even the event a couple weeks ago going the 6 runs on the one day at 130+mpg I was once again at the 28+mpg. All this while at 8/9psi of boost.

I just finished my tank of Ethanol Free Shell V Power Gold gas .... and the results are well "Nothing to write home about". I got 638 km and 36.88 liters. This is 5.8 L/100 KM or 40.55 US MPG.

Interestingly, this is EXACTLY the same fuel economy that I got with "regular" 87 Octane 10% Ethanol gasoline.

So .... looks like the Ethanol free doesn't give you any better gas mileage. I watched a YouTube video recently and it showed that for cars like the Yaris, there is no difference in performance in the higher grade gasolines.

I think we have shown that there is NO benefit to spending the extra money to get higher grade gasolines.

On one single Journey I managed 55mpg, not bad for a Yaris where toyota claim it should only achieve 52.5MPG from a 1.33 Manual.

On average I do a lot of mixed driving so my MPG maxes out at about 39-41MPG.
