I have an 2002 Automatic Vitz and it is reving high when starting. I believe the automatic choke is stuck in the on position. Can anyone tell me where the automatic choke is located and how to adjust it.

Does the idle keep going up and down after it starts to warm up a bit? Toyota used a valve in the past on some of the vehicles that would cause this problem, It is linked into the cooling system.

I believe that there is a good chance that the car's computer is, among its many functions, doing the duties of a choke. You may be experiencing a problem not related to a choke in the traditional sense.
Wish you can solve the problem soon! |

Choke? I think those went out of style round the same time as billy idol
Yea sounds like a computer problem, is the check engine light on? First thing i'd do is scan the comp for codes. |

It's normal for it to rev high at first, and gradually settle down, just part of the automated warming up process

That's what I like about about autozone as they give you a free scan. You can use the money you have saved for the services of mechanics in case you need one.

If there isn't a check engine light on, then a scan tool (like the ones at AutoZone) will not help you.
Besides, guys, I don't think there are any AutoZones in Ireland. If it doesn't go away after the vehicle is warm, then it sounds like an idle air control valve to me. I see them everyday. It may just need to be cleaned out- I'm not sure if yours is on top of or under the intake manifold- wherever it is, pull it out, spray carb cleaner through it until the carbon buildup is gone, and re-install. If the problem persists, contact your Toyota dealer. They, and only they, have a new computer (just released to dealerships) that can pull a history and health check- it pulls all codes and diagnostic information stored in your ECU. At that point they can make a determination as to what is wrong- even if there is not a check engine light on.
