New (to Me) 08 LB

I picked up an 08 Yaris last week. Love these little cars. We have a newer Fit but I got a job further away from my house so we needed a second car.

Very happy with it so far, drove it home from where I bought it and got just about 44 MGP, pretty damn good I thought.

It may be a toss up depending on what I am doing but I may like the 2 dr LB Yaris more than my Fit. The 5 speed is definitely more fun to drive than the auto Honda,

The Yaris only has 22k on it, the seller claimed that the engine only really has about 11k, as it was in tow with an RV for most of it’s life.

Anyway, as far as I know there has only been 2 oil changes to this, maybe more but no records. I am planning on putting synthetic in from here out. And I know about ½ of the websites on the internet are devoted to oil type/choices/opinons, (the other ½ is porn) I am wondering about oil choice.

Should I just stick with the 5w-30 synthetic? I see some people change weights and change it up on the season. I think 5/30 synthetic and do that every 10k.

Anything else I should do to this little car on the maintenance front? Like I said I have basically no records of service. I think I’ll get the tires rotated but can’t think of anything else.

Thanks

22k is pretty low k's. If your super concerned.. change the brake fluid and check the brake pads, disks, if handbrake works and coolant.

unless its been owned by a terrible driver it should be sweet

i've used 5.30 synth and 10/30 synth since 20~k and motors nice and quiet

well to the club!

check your control arm bolts...just do a search on it here. as for the oil Toyota actually put out a bulletin a couple years back about actually moving to 0-20 weight oil. You don't have to, but I personally run 5-20.

My 08 only has 28K on it, and it's never towed (I just own other vehicles).

The Yaris is a great car, much more popular overseas than in the States (I was just in Germany and Okinawa, and saw tons of them!).

Welcome to YarisWorld!

Cheers! M2

Thanks everyone.
I changed oil/filter. I ended up going w/ 5w20 synthetic, so that should be all I need to do w/ that for about a year.

I’ll look into the control arm bolts and see what I think about that.
