Unhappy Yaris dead then minutes later starts fine

Hi,

We just had a bitter cold night here and when I opened the door to start my Yaris, it was completely dead. No lights on at all. I waited about 10 minutes then when I opened the car door again, the dome light came on and the car started fine. This has happened once before about a month ago. Do you have any ideas on what to check? I had replaced the battery last winter with a Truestart brand from Toyota. The 2007 Yaris has 130K miles. Thanks

First thing I would check would be the condition/tightness of the - and + battery terminals and connections. Could be you've got a bad ground.

Talking battery terminal was loose

You were right. I could not believe it. The positive battery terminal was loose. I am not sure how long that was like that. I guess since it is under that plastic cover I never looked. I had an oil change and I guess they didnt find it either. Thanks!

Wow the oil change place didn't check your battery connections? That's a load of crap! This is why I have again started back doing my own maintenance/repair on my cars as much as I can anyway. What got me back doing it was when I took my Mustang into the Ford place for an oil change and they scratched my car pretty bad down low in the front. It appeared they run a floor jack or something into it. It was on a plastic part but the thing that mad me angry about it is they brought my car out to me and never said a word about it. I did not notice the scratch until I saw it after stopping for gas. I thought about going back but they would just say they didn't do it. That did it for me.
