I've been having problems getting heat when driving to work in the morning. it's fine at idle and slow speeds, but when driving fast, it seems to loose "hot" and kinda cough warm air. I figured it was just a lack of insolation on the cab and prob needing a new air filter... i'll check the hose tomorrow morning when I get to work. we've been around 10-20F lately. (-10C-[-6.66]C)

First thing to do is change new thermostat if your coolant level is correct ..
AE11x corollas do that same if coolant level drops too low ... don't know about Yaris

I've never changed a thermostat on a 1NZ but make sure it isn't in backward, if that's possible.

You can also check to make sure it opens by putting it in some water on the stove and bring it up to a boil. It should be open long before it boils though.

If you lose heat at speed, then your thermostat is stuck open.

That reminds me of the time I changed the thermostat in my old Honda for a cheap aftermarket one. It didn't have a seal on it like the genuine Honda one did so it leaked and the car wouldn't warm up unless it idled. Then once I started driving it would cool down again. Only fix was a genuin Honda part.
