Gas went up over 20% here today. Only in Canada could they get away with it.

If you guys in the US had a dollar increase overnight .. there would be a revolution.

We are very passive here, and people just roll over and take it. It is how it is.

Since I last reported gas here in NJ at $1.39 its gone up to $1.55. This despite the fact that most media are reporting a continuing glut of oil on the market.

AU $1.04 per liter this morning. In Sydney.

That works out to US $3.14 per US gallon. This is considered fairly cheap at present.

It's around that price in most of Toronto.

However for anyone in each of the Vaughan area, there's a ridiculously cheap Esso station at Dufferin and Major Mackenzie
I filled up there yesterday for 93.6c a litre - although the signage show their "official" price as 96.9 :-) I guess they're not allowed to advertise their real price.

From $1.39 maybe six months ago gas here in South Jersey is $2.05 a gallon.

I wonder how high it goes from here?

NJ is currently debating whether or not to raise the tax on gas 23 cents a gallon. Last week it was supposedly a done deal but the legislature backed down. The governor (Christie) proposed the increase in exchange for a reduction in the sales tax from 7 to 6%.

Apparently the Democrats realized the ramifications to the state budget of such a reduction in their income. They pay for votes in the form of state jobs with full pension after only 5 years of employment and a 1% decrease in the sales tax would put quite a dent in their ability to pay.

Or maybe not. The sate is already tens of billions in the hole from these pensions.

Maybe the price of gas is the least of our worries in NJ right now!

I paid $2.05 last week.
