trailer wiring again
I have a 2014 Yaris 3 door that I recently installed a Curt 56175 convertor for my trailer wiring. 2 months later I'm still having issues. Signal lights and park lights work on the trailer but brake lights will not. If I step on the brakes then the signal lights will not work. I have to turn off the ignition and restart. I have a trailer harness tester and the output from the convertor test OK. I have a common ground on the trailer and all the lights have a ground wire connected to this ground. What else is there to check? I have yet to connect with Curt tech support.

On the Curt website, that particular converter does not show up for Yaris 2010 or greater. 2009 is the last year in the compatibility chart which is odd, since I would suspect up to and including 2011 to be shown. They plain don't show one for 2010+. I'm not familiar with the tail light wiring on the Gen3.

I also don't know what the wiring should be on the newer Yarises, however your problem sorta sounds to me like it has to do with whether or not the brake light and signal lights are integrated or separate on your car. You either need a converter that lets you choose either mode, or you need the correct converter to go with how your car's lights are configured.

wiring harness
Shep, If I connect a trailer wire tester to the output of the converter the tester will light correctly. No issues. The problem arises when I connect to the trailer. Seems to me if the tester works than the trailer lights should operate correctly. No?

etrailer.com shows the 56175 converter for the 2014 so presumably you do have a compatible kit. Trailer wiring itself messed up? Have you hooked up your trailer to someone else wired to tow and checked the lights?

After much research I have my trailer lights working on my 2014 Yaris. I removed the Curt 56175 converter and went with a 59187 powered converter. No more issues with the trailer lights and all work as they should. I installed the power wire to the battery by installing the wire behind the interior panels from the trunk to the dash. I zip tied the wire to the wire way from the back lights to the box near the drivers right foot. From there I pushed the wire through the hood release latch grommet up to the battery. Nice clean installation. Now the trailer lights are bright and the stop lights work as well.

Powered converters are always a great choice on today's cars. Tends to be the electronics aren't built with any additional lighting capacity in mind.
