P0500

I was driving my 2007 Yaris and notice the engine light pop up. The idle change it was riding a little rough almost like it wanted to shut off. The Transmission wouldn't want to go into fourth gear. The cruse control was also not working. I took it to the nearest auto zone and had them scan my car and the computer gave me a P0500 code. The speedometer works fine. Do you guys know where I should look? I've been looking at the repair manual and it talks to test the ECM but I was hoping someone else has ran into this situation before I start messing with that.

A code P0500 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle
