Used Yaris Only Came With One Key...

Hello. I'm new to posting here, and I'm sorry if my search-fu is weak. I'm trying to learn things more or less on my own and I'm a little stuck.

I got a used 2008 Yaris sedan last year, and the dealer said they only had one key. It's not even a Toyota key. It says Axxess+ 35R and has no fob or anything. I'm assuming it's a valet key as well since it doesn't open my trunk (I know, I did a bad job scoping things out before buying).

I've tried to do some research, and so far I'm gathering that I don't have an immobilizer because my ignition has no black ring and is all metal?

My first question is, will I be able to have a key with the fob buttons at all?

Second, am I pretty screwed when it comes to getting a new key? Is this one of those things where I will need a new ECM and am I forced to go to a Toyota dealer to handle this?

I'm just trying to educate myself on my options here and I don't have any knowledgeable folks around me right now, so any pointing in the right direction is appreciated. I am happy to learn. Thank you, all!

dealer

The dealer may be able to cut you a key by the VIN. Give them a call and find out.

I agree with Allenwagen's post. The Access key is a universal blank like you get from Home Depot. If you wish to have a Toyota branded key, ny dealer will gladly cut you as many as you want. Your vehicle does not have a transponder key, so a solid brass key will work just as well as the fancy dealer key for a fraction of the price.

Odd that the key for the ignition doesn't fit the doors? Dealer may be able to cone up with a door key? If not try a lock smith, if you get a door key you can remove the ignition switch and may be able to file the tumblers so the door key fits the ignition too.

A locksmith can re key the locks for you. The door and trunk lock are a breeze to remove and install.
