Rear Brakes Worn Down

I took my car in for its 5k service and the technician checked my brakes. For the front both sides are at 10mm (which is awesome according to this form) but the back two are on 3mm (meaning I will need them replaced).

Yes I do drive my car in a "spirited" manner. I rarely brake hard or for long periods of time while driving. I got this car brand new on June 12.

Can someone explain why the back is so much lower than the front? Is it due to the difference in brake type?

Rear shoes are extremely thin to begin with. Only ~4mm new. They rarely need replacing. Hence the reason why there has yet to be a DIY published on replacing the rear brakes.

Any good brand to replace them with? Or should I just do a conversion?

Why do you want to replace them? They are barely worn.

So like 7 or 8 years from now. Mine has been on the road for 8 years, 200,000 kms, and I'm at 1.5 - 2mm.

Damn, they last that long. Ok then not worried about them failing in a year or two.

Just keep them adjusted properly, that way you won't fatigue the front so quickly.
