I'm about to make an offer on an 07 Yaris without cruise and am MOST grateful that I stumbled on this thread! Thank you all!
The illuminated switch won't work without the same type of driving circuitry, due to the switch being a momentary input (rather than a latching switch). Basically, in electronic terms you need a flip-flop, which takes a single input and toggles the output each time the input is pulsed.

I'm probably going to do this mod soon and I'm about to gather what parts I need. I'll probably go with the mounted two button method, and since I have an 07 3-door HB auto, I'll need to run a wire through the firewall. This seems like it will be the same installation as Patrick Johnson (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...&postcount=101). I'll get the resistors/switches from digikey, where should I get the wiring and what gauges? Also how hard is it to feed a wire through the rubber hose and have it come out the other side?

The wire gauge isn't critical, as there is no current involved (we're just switching a signal input). I would go with between 22 and 18 gauge. You could purchase a small spool at Radio shack or Home Depot.

Feeding through the passenger side rubber boot is fairly easy. Poke a small hole, shove through a semi-rigid piece of wire, and then pull through your wire.

How many have done the install? Many who see mine comment on the coolness. But an equal number say "You did WHAT?!"

PS I still have a set of four switches and the resistors to do this mod. $5 gets it mailed to your door.

It worked! I mounted the buttons inside the coin tray as a trial, they're completely hidden. I also installed a mini-deans connector so that I can take the whole mess out in the event of a warranty problem. I think I'll relocate them to the empty removable panel next to the dash light dial soon, for user friendliness. THanks!!!!

Can I assume that this will work for the 09 Sedan also?

What dangers/issues do I need to be worried about doing this mod?
I have wires running all over from the LED mods so I am not worried about the work, just warranty issues.

As I understand it yes, the mod works for the 09 Sedan. Its just a matter of tapping into the two wires under the steering wheel and hooking them up to the four (or two if you prefer) switches with the resistors. With an 09 you dont need to be concerned with the ECM.

Just an FYI, the burden of proof is on the warranty provider to prove that any modification resulted in a failure of the component or part being warrantied. They can't deny a warrantly claim unless they can prove your modification caused whatever is broken.

Well, my base model sedan is different

I guess I am screwed on this fantastic inexpensive mod.

Here are the pics I just took of my steering column.
As you can see, the brown and blue cables are missing.....so I think anyway.

Can someone confirm?
Circled the connector where I think the two additional cables should be:

Picture from the bottom of the steering column...

That is correct. Looks like the 09 sedan doesn't have the wiring in place from the steering column to the ECM. Does it have the cruise indicators on the combination meter?

You're not totally dead in the water for this mod. You just have to do the 07-08 method, which involves running a single wire from the switches to the ECM. Take a look at the tail end of this thread:

Yes it does have the cruise indicators, but they are way at the top of the gauge cluster.

I will look at the 07-08 section. Thanks for the input.
<-goes and mopes and grumbles about not having cruise control.

ctscott,

one last question (for the next 30 seconds )

With the 07=08 mod, all we are doing to shorting pin 40 on the ECU to ground to turn on the CS and then short it to ground with a load (~600 ohms) to set the CS..

Or did I miss something?
