Yaris bent factory rims or within tolerance?
I was changing out my all seasons today when I noticed all my tires were out of true on the balancing machine. I dont really feel vibration on the road but I am surprised. I believe a tolerance of .050" is accepted. These are the factory steelies and new tires ride well. Could it just be runout on the tire or steelies?

Are you saying your tyres are out of round?

I think its my factory rims. I dont feel enough shaking even going down the freeway, but you can definitely notice when its spinning, especially when I saw it on the balance machine

I don't see it. Or I'm really tired.
I think your tires are just dirty. How out of balance were they on the balancing machine? Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

Definitely to the point of being noticeable. I should have taken a video of it. The rears might be worse off, but the amount of vibration I get is not even noticeable inside the car for the most part.

Wheels on a balancing machine can sometimes give a kind of optical illusion of radical movement side to side or up and down. If you are really worried about it, in spite of them riding fine, use a carpenters square against the bare rim. It will give you an idea about how true the rim is.

I spun it manually also and noticed a little wobble. At first i assumed it was the bead incorrectly seated against the rim or cone on balancing machine misaligned. I spun it manually and indeed there is some runout. Might need to get me a dial gauge and a mount to measure it. As far as I know, .050" or 1.25mm is the tolerance.

Its not uncommon to see new out of round tires, I have exchanged ones that I feel are too excessive. What kind of weight are you putting on them? Me, anything over 1.75oz per side is excessive for a small passenger car tire. Another tip, put the one with the most weight/out of round the furthest from the driver. Try spinning the tire on the rim to get the weight down.

The highest i saw on any was 2oz on a side. most of the time it was .25-1.25 I told the shop to line the yellow dot with the stem to reduce using weights but they didnt. Its a new tip I learned.

Yeah, its hard to find places that take the time to get the best tire balance job.

I think its a matter of different areas of the tire being different colors or shades of grey and black. What u r seeing isnt movement its changing colors. Try hosing down the tire before spinning.
You could put a dial indicator on all four tires and compare the run out. But it wouldnt concern me if my tires did that unless the runout was really a lot. Maybe not even then.

So.... your tyres balanced properly, and you are not experiencing any noticeable vibration at speed. Yet, you are apparently obsessed with your dirty tyres giving you the visual impression they are wobbling when they are spinning.

There definitely is some wobble. Not easy to see in video. I rotated them. Could be a problem with the bead seating the rim as well

Tires are not perfect, so are rims. Sometimes, the rim and the tire is so well aligned they don't require any weight to keep balanced. But doesn't mean tires are always perfect. Also, anything under .25oz is considered balanced. But also is worth installing a .25oz weight if it's unbalanced by say .20oz. it depends on the garage. I have one at .21oz Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

if the guy is half a bit lazy and doesnt make sure to mount the tires properly on the machine , then your tires are fucked. buy a balance machine used on kijiji
