WTB: Cheap beater 4 or 5 door Yaris

I'm looking for a backup car for what I do for work. 4 doors are a necessity. Hatch or sedan doesn't matter. Stick or automatic doesn't matter. Power locks and windows would be nice but not required. A/C being present is a must but I think it was standard equipment anyway.

I don't even care if it's broken as long as it's cheap. Just not wrecked horribly. I don't mind swapping out dented panels that can be unbolted. Can't be a "rebuilt" or "salvage" title.

I'm in Rockford, IL. Willing to travel for a good deal. Should be able to tow a broken car home.

Still looking. No luck finding a broken down on on craigslist and found one at a local dealer but they're being lying pieces of trash about it, telling me I can buy it for a certain amount and then when I go back to do so telling me that it's no longer enough. Con artists.

Never heard of that before. Checked on there but they were more expensive than what I could afford. Plus, that's all dealer stuff which usually is in good working condition instead of something that's high miles and kind of beat up lol. Thanks for the info though.

It's private sale, too. It's an aggregate site that finds online ads and puts them in one, conveniently searchable place. You can specifically search for private sale, within a price range, year, model, etc.

Not sure if it pulls from places like craigslist, or only sites like auto trader, but several folks I know have found deals through it and I had a saleswoman at a dealership in Moreno Valley tell me about how much it changed the game for their used car sales. Definitely worth mixing into your searches.

^Swap my zip code out for yours and re-run the search. Set for private sale, used, sedan/hatchback/wagon and nothing else.

109 listings within 100 miles of my area.

No; the cheapest one is a very clean 2008 sedan in a very interesting color for $2,700.

That's a nice little guy. However, it's too nice and too much for what I want to do.

Try ECHOs. More likely to be one in your price range.

Ended up getting a 2006 Scion xA. It's basically a slightly bigger 5 door hatchback Echo/Yaris thing. Good enough for my use! So this thread can be closed for now.

Echo, Yaris, xA, xB are all first cousins as far as I'm concerned. xD second cousin.

Congratulations. I'm sure it will be a great car.
