I'm not purchasing my next car until 2020 or 2022 (I don't like odd-numbered years unless it ends in 5 - an OCD thing). Nothing much is on my auto radar really outside of possibly another Toyota-Made SE Yaris, if I like the looks of it in that model-year (and they are still being sold in the USA) - though I will go automatic from here on out, since I'm not getting any younger.

Perhaps the next-gen Corolla won't be the sad, weak/skinny-stanced eyesore that it is currently. The next-gen Camry looks pretty good from what I saw thus far, but is a bit too large for my taste in vehicles.

Most of the newer cars just aren't being styled to my liking, and/or contain a lot of unnecessary "safety" tech-bloat for distracted/idiot drivers. Huge turn off, and will just lead to more costly repairs down the road as sensors/mechanisms inevitably fail/malfunction.

iA - Can't stomach the horrible front-end bumper/headlight design, among other things.
iM - Can't stomach the horrible front-end bumper/headlight design
C-HR - Looks a bit to funky and weird, overall, for my taste. Trying too hard to be futuristic.
Civic - Yet another goofy eyesore car from Honda
Fit - Yet another goofy eyesore car from Honda
Suburu Impreza - 2017 looks pretty good! , but I need to test-drive one to see how it feels.
Corolla - see above Hoping for the best from the next-gen.

What are your thoughts on the Mazda 3 wagon? I've seen a few in that deep blue and I actually think I could work with it from a looks perspective.

Wheels, lows, tint, etc. and I think it could look pretty aggressive.

The Mazda 3 hatchback and the Mazda CX-3 are growing on me. Actually, Mazda design looks pretty good compared to most of the current Toyotas and Hondas.

Totally agree. I completely slept on the Mazda section at the last couple OC Auto Shows, but as I see them on the road more and more, they really are growing on me.

Whammy...

The Mazdas are decent looking cars overall. However I see a lot more Mazdas on the road with rust issues, than any other Japanese brand. Even cars that are only a few years old. Mazda 3s appear to be the worst, but I see some other current models with rust as well. Puts me completely off of Mazda.

I'm alsonot keen on a lot of Toyota and Honda's futuristic styling these days, especially what they've done with the Rav4. However, I quite like the current Camry and Corolla styling.

Anyone got thoughts on Mitsubishi?

I would have gone for a Mirage if they'd been around a little longer, but they're not far enough down the depreciation cycle yet. They're very reliable so far, from what I've read. Lots of Geo Metro owners have embraced them as the Metro's modern replacement.

They're coarse, loud, slow, and cheap in every way, good and bad. But they're put together in a way that makes them easy to work on, and they get 40+mpg without any hybrid or turbo shenanigans. It takes a certain kind of person to appreciate a car like that.

The Mazda3 has been growing on me as well since the lastest version was released a few years back, though I prefer the sedan version proportions over the hatchback version. I still think that the dramatic swooshing lower-door side body lines makes the car look like it is sagging in the middle a bit. LOVE the rear end design, and also like the front end design, overall.

I also like the overall look of the CX-3 (better than the C-HR or HR-V), even though I'm not really the crossover SUV type, but have this thing about oversized (or undersized) looking wheels on cars. The 16" on the base CX-3 trim looks too small, and the 18" on the higher trims look too big, so I guess that 17" would be the magic number for me on this vehicle.

I've seen the back and forth about rust with Mazda, and not sure what to think about it. My sister (also here in AZ) has a top-trim 2013 Mazda3 sedan (previous model design to the current version) and I don't see any rust issues with it - but then, cars don't really rust very often in dry, hot AZ.

A truck? I saw this one at Barrett-Jackson yesterday, but it doesn't cross the block until tomorrow. Gas is cheap, go get this one.

Hell no to all these trucks lol. I get annoyed enough with people's parking jobs as is. I swear to Christ I'd monster truck some of these idiots cars if I drove one of those behemoths.

The Sonic doesn't look bad, but like Hyundai, I'd worry about reliability every time I took it out on the road.
