Personally, I have the dealership do all the maintenance on the car. It's cheap enough (the maintenance) to not worry about the differential over spending my own time changing the oil. I also want NO excuses from Toyota or the dealership if something does go wrong with the engine that something was done incorrectly on my part.

IIRC, the dealership uses conventional oil. They haven't led me wrong yet.

I'm also noticing an old "friend" starting to troll on this thread.

What makes you think that there is any less "blow by", which is the cause of most contaminants, with synthetics ?
Just change the filter at 5000 miles. Also, for cold starts...you can't do better than synthetics. I plan on keeping my Yaris for a long time and run synthetic at the recommended scheduled maintenance time.

At 100K, I changed to Kendall synthetic and plan to change my oil from here on out, but only when it begins to look dirty and with the highway miles I put on it (25-30k a year), I expect a once a year oil change may due.

I've never used sythetic oil. I do regular oil change, got new spark plugs, new

drive belt, new battery and tranny oil.My Yaris is rejuvenated.
