NEED ECHO ADVICE

k, found this gem: http://www.kingsauto.ca/carinfo.php?id=375

ive been looking to swap either our aveo or yaris for something a bit more family oriented. my idea being something with a/c (which neither of our cars have), power locks (4dr w/ kid = teh suck), and potentially more space/versatility.

at the present time, i don't want a 3rd car (cost of ownership, insurance, etc)

so this means replacing either the aveo (only option is auto) or the yaris (has "b" package, but is 3dr hatch)

my mother-in-law lives with my wife, daughter and i and uses the aveo to drive around our daughter in the day and uses the aveo if we go away on teh weekends. she doesnt drive stick.

so i a certain way, im looking to replace the yaris with something more family oriented, but still economical enough for a daily driver and i don't want to spend much to swap out either of the cars for another new-to-us car.

i guess i see this echo sedan as the way out of my dilemma, as it were. its a 4dr and has a/c, power locks, and cruise for family hauling. its still a 5speed and i can still mod it enough due to its similar engine, etc to keep me happy. PLUS i wouldnt have to get new snow tires, summer tires, etc.

what do you guys think? am i just wasting time? is that a good price for the echo? (keep in mind this is a canadian listing, etc)

I love the Echo, and we've got three Yaris sedans in our family because it's the closest thing to an Echo that they still make. But bear in mind that you're "backgrading" to an older model car.

Same here! The Yaris is a step down from an ECHO. Id much prefer to own one that I had from new though. Only a Yaris can be new though.

Seems like you've put so much time and effort into your Yaris, it would suck to have to trade down, unless you were able to take off all the mods you've put in.

Of course, I don't have a family, so my priorities would be off anyway. If it was me, I'd attempt to get rid of the aveo. I'm sure the aveo is a nice car, I would think the Echo would be a safer car, wouldn't it?

But yeah, my first car was an '05 Phantom Gray Echo. I think it's a great little car. That seems like a decent price, especially when it doesn't even have 100,000km on it yet!

used to have an echo... some parts will cross over, namely some engine parts, but many suspension parts do not... but don't let that stop you... i loved my little echo... only major cost that came up while i had the echo was the clutch for the m/t

talked it over w/ my wife....we'll see what happens.

i realize the echo is a downgrade of sorts, but i can reuse a fair number of parts and if i want more options w/o spending a lot of cash (as we're currently w/o car payments on either of our cars and we'd like to keep it that way) i have to get a slightly older car.

emailed the guy about the echo on friday and he's only asking 6000 now for the echo.

What's all this talk of a down grade? I'd call it an upgrade!

No dbw crap, no CAN system that cracks a tantrum if you unplug something it doesn't like, lighter/faster/ more nimble and easier engine bay to work on.

Same reliability, same amount of aftermarket support, same quality.

But I may be biased :)

Get them a an Echo and get rid of GM. go here:http://www.mtlautoprix.com/en/live-the-experience/

you'd be surprised of the deals you could get from them sometimes
But he needs to keep an Automatic in the family.

reading > you

put haterade in the coffee this morning?

need to keep the aveo, for now, for my mother-in-law. havent had any problems w/ the aveo thus far.

makes the most sense to trade in the yaris - - on the assumption that we trade at all

looking local within 150-200km. as i am/was looking to trade w/o a lot of out-of-pocket money, a drive to quebec and back isnt exactly cheap.

you won't be surprised to hear the value of the aveo is less than the yaris. i would therefore need more money out-of-pocket to purchase an even OLDER car with MORE kilometers on it (more than the 05 echo sedan w/ 89k).

but it calls into question whats the long run worth?

will i need to get a car w/ 150k on it to come closer to even w/ teh aveo's worth? then i start asking myself, im trading an 06 aveo for an 03 echo sedan w/ 3x the kilometers, why?

going to be sticking with what we've got anyways.

likely goal is to wait until we NEED something bigger....but thats a whole other ball of wax in vehicle selection.

don't really want to buy new, and domestic brands depreciate nicely...

well, we'll NEED a car that'll hold 2 kids and a mother-in-law PLUS my wife and i.

with the skinny baby seats we have, we'll either need a wagon/suv-type car thats wide or something w/ 3 rows of seating
