it works XD transmission with 09 corolla ratios

I recently rebuilt a transmission for a friend using an xd transmission ,corolla 1st ,2nd ,5th and corolla 4.312 final ,all parts seemed interchangeable.I got the corolla parts because a customer bought a used transmission to replace the one they had now because it was grinding in third, thankfully I didn't need third .
before doing this gear swap i had tried once before to use celica c56 gears in xd transmission but was unsuccessful it seemed that the tapers on the gears and the syncros where all a little different ,so they would not mesh properly.
however i have been successful in using celica c 60 gears in a yaris c50 with no problems on my own transmission so i thought it would work the same on a xd.
I happy to report all is well with the gear swap including the new cusco lsd in the car . Gears 2 through 4 are shorter , fifth has slight better fuel economy and 1st gear stayed almost the same.seems like a good swap on a budget.I hope to do the same to my yaris one day ,so nice to know it works.

xd gear ratios c50
3.545
1.904
1.310
0.969

final 3.941
09 corolla gear ratios c59

xd+corolla new ratios

That is pretty cool to know. Sucks that they are shorter in my case as I would assume the gears and syncros are stronger in the Corolla?

I did a similar swap a few years back: C50 Yaris casing, xB1 final drive ring gear, C56 Celica pinion shaft, Matrix/Corolla 5th gear (.725:1), Quaife LSD. I plan to keep that with my upcoming 1.8 swap.

From what I saw tearing down the C50 (Yaris), C50 (xB), C56 (Celica) and C59 (Matrix), the hubs, synchros and gears are all the same size. The only difference I've found is in the size of the differential: bigger ID on the ring gear and larger splines on the output shaft holes.

From what I could tell I think they updated the syncros ,I couldn't get it to work but I was just trying to use just the gears, maybe the combination was wrong and I needed to use both sliding sleeve syncros off the celica c56. On my yaris c60 gear swap I just changed the gears and reused the yaris syncros and sliding sleeves.
I ended up combining my spare yaris c50 transmission with c56 to make a more turbo ready gear ratio using yaris 3.7 final.

just curious what year of matrix c59 did you use.?

Interesting. I kept both gears on the 3-4 hub, completely swapped 5th hub + gears. I'm pretty sure it was an '07 Matrix.

I just finish talking to my parts guy but apparently 09 matrix has a change on 1 and 2(double cone) and there was also some big change in 2003 between 3 and 4 but anything after 2003 used same synchros, gears and sliding sleeve. That being said i haven't tried out my other transmission yet so it could be just as messed up, I just threw it together.oh crap! I am pretty sure i used a 02 celica transmission with out the matching sliding sleeves or synchros .I had problems on gear three on the xd transmission before with c56 swap but also could have been a crappy reassembly as well, too many unknowns, have to open up transmission, so will make sure to document differences ,if any.?

So here's a question I have. are the C50 Yaris transmission and the C60 Celica Corolla Lotus transmission gear synchros the same?
