Dipstick

Does anyone else find the Yaris oil dipstick hard to read? I changed my oil yesterday and find it near impossible to tell where the actual oil level is. I see light marks of oil going up and inch or two past the high point. I only put 3.5qt of oil in, so there is no way I put too much in.

this is a well known "problem" with the yaris. I'd recommend you buy a valve controlled funnel with measurements on the side and fill your oil filter and then engine with that to the specified amount.

Proper amount is:
3.7L w/ the filter
3.4L w/ out filter

run the engine for a few hundred km's and then check it after it's been sitting for a few mins on level ground. It should then be more legible and should roughly be to the top of the hatched lines. You'll never get a straight crisp line on the dipstick with the 1nz engine

my dipstick doesn't get checked like it used to...pretty much dry on both sides.

Oh wait...never mind...I misunderstood the thread and thought it was about something else.

On cars with hard to read dipsticks (or just poor lighting in the area) I like to lay a paper towel on the end of the dipstick and check where the oil stain goes to. :)

Not sure how much the dip stick has changed over the Yaris years, but on mine I have to flip it over after taking it out, and read the designated area where the bends are on the dipstick - which I assume are there to keep oil on stick, as not to scrape/smear off while removing it (like it does on the other side of stick).
