apexi afc

so I have been talkin to another tuner here in town that has a pretty sick Aveo, yeah laugh.... that is what I did, because I have driven an Aveo b4 and know how sluggish they are, but with a CAI & Exhaust then tuned it with an Apexi AFC to mess with some shit with MAP and the injector pulse, shit that was way over my head.... But this was one bad machine with minor modifications, and he said it can easily be done to the yaris even though we have a MAF instead of a MAP, it is the same concept.....
so I may borrow another buddies AFC out of his old car he does not drive anymore and try and turn my ride, it we are sucessfull, I am going to buy the AFC, and post the DIY on the tuning as each vehicle will be a lil different settings from the next.... so lets hope this shit works, cause if I have similar results has him, I may have the baddest N/A 1NZ on the road

Yes you can fine tune a car pretty well with an AFC. It is what I used to put a MAF from a maxima on my nissan. I suggest you get a zietronix wideband kit. This will allow you to datalog your AFRs as well as others like throttle position etc. You can do a very good tune when used in conjunction.

Even better. You will get a print out of what you are putting down to the ground.

afc only tunes af ratio. You need to tune VVT'I and timing as well ;)

I understand the AFC only does the air and fuel, and a VVT controler would be most bennifical..... but no one I know just has a VVT controler just layin around... but I can get ahold of an AFC, if I have good results, then I plan to run it in conjuction with a VVT controller and retune....

I just hope all this shit works cause it would be a fairly inexpensive preformance upgrade

exactly.

the afc will only let you lean/rich the fuel mixture by adding/decreasing % values at 6 points on the rpm scale(i think it was 6 )
is the same thing as the simple emanage but the emanage with the support tool gives you a 16 x 16 grid for specific "tuning".

i'm not sure what your friend did but for a n/a vehicle is kind of money wasted. i used the afc twice on civic turbo-homemade kits and it did what it was supposed to but never to the full extend of a true tuning device.

the only way the afc will be of value is if the ecu runs really rich and you can then take some fuel away, then you will see an increase in power but not much really.

good luck man!

like I said.... this is an experiment.... he works for a reputable tuning shop in Columbus, OH... so I am sure he had an AFC laying around, and he was doing the same experiment

you'd be surprised how this motor is un-affected by mods. Goto a dyno :)

http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...highlight=dyno

just looking at this post here I do not think I am out of line with my #'s
but I will be doing a Dyno b4 and after to give hard #'s so I can post dyno results... so there will be NO estimating on my behalf, only the the Dyno will tell

That proves my point exactly, nothing gained. AND its lean as hell just like I've been saying for awhile now with the Toyo DBW cars.....
