Which mark on engine oil dipstick?
I changed the oil recently on my wife's yaris and with a new filter put in about 3 3/4 quarts of oil. The level on the dipstick is above the crosshatched area it covers the F on the stick. Is this to much will it damage the engine??

That is just a little bit over, so I don't think it will do any real damage. But you may find that your mileage is 2-3Mpg lower than usual.
Run it for a day and check it again. If it is still over the top mark, simply undo the plug only enough to let it drip (do not remove) after 30 seconds or so, wipe the outlet with a clean rag and tighten the plug fully. For the little bit that you might be over, it may not be worth the trouble to try and drain off the extra 1/2 quart. The first gen Scion xB has the same size motor, and I know some people just put in a full 4 quarts into it with a filter change without even thinking about it. |

i put 4qt and it goes just right at the top of the cross.
the thing is, when you do it on your driveway, it depends on how your car is angled. I always put mine angled backward, so oil drains out without leaving a "lake" inside the pan. I usually let it drain while i go eat lunch, and then come back later to finish the job. :P jetedit: shouldn't the 1nz-fe take a full 4qt?? ie, 3.7L |

Spaceshots right, chances are that it wont damage the engine but it will slow it up just a bit. Just remember that too little is WAY better than too much!

I don't think you have to worry. Next time, put three quarts, run the engine and check to see how much you need to add. I usually put 3 1/2 quarts to reach the full mark.

I hate my plastic dipstick, can I replace it with a metal one? What if the plastic breaks and gets in my engine? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

10 years already with the 1nz-fe. I don't recall anybody having the plastic stick breaking apart and falling into the oil pan.
