New suspension!

so i finished my new suspension set up finally! it has been in limbo for quite awhile.

last season i tracked the car using DF210's, 23 mm rear sway bar, so the spring rates were 175 lbs F and 125 lbs R. The car drove great and the balance was very good!! it needed some more spring, so i have been trying to figure out something to make that happen. i didnt want to lose the HTS's so i wouldnt consider coilovers.

so now, i am running ground control coilovers from a Honda Fit on the front with 6" 375 lbs springs, and the rear springs from the T1R Honda Fit kit, 342 lbs.

So together, the set up is 375 lbs in the Front, and 342 lbs in the Rear with the sway bar. This should give a balance very similar to the setup i used last season, but each corner is nearly 200 lbs stiffer.

After a quick drive around, it drives absolutely AMAZING!! I havent tracked it yet, so its really hard to say, but it is very flat. Cant wait to put the car around a road course, maybe pass some more corvettes and vipers

i already had the sway bar, the full set of Fit springs were $120-130 i cant remember, and the Ground Controls were $400 or so. So, definitely not cheap, but that wasnt the point. the point is to try things out and find new options, i like to explore options

Yes, time to do that, haha

everything installed with no modifications. i trimmed a small segment of rear spring off to lower the car about a half inch, it was under half a coil and it was one of the "dead" coils. now the front and rear sit even.

The engineer at Tokico said the shocks would handle 500 lbs easily. I can tell you, driving around town, the shocks are not taxed at all. In fact, the car is more comfortable than before. I think because the front shocks are not bottoming out constantly!

thats the wierd thing, the ride is SO MUCH better! bumps, everything. i think its bc the fronts are not bottoming out anymore.

I still can't believe Honda Fit suspension bolts up to a Yaris. That's crazy.

What an awesome find. Thank you for sharing. Definitely post up a whole parts list and opinions once you track the car!

yeah sure thing... i tell ya what, this set up is incredible. the car is going to be FAST. its like a mini type R

so as of now, my mods are:

Power:

DC Header
Pulley

Chassis:

Tokico HTS shocks
Ground Control Honda Fit front coilovers (375 lbs/6.6 kg)
T1R Honda Fit rear springs (342 lbs/6.1 kg)
23mm rear sway bar from UR

Other:

TRD 2-way clutch LSD
Cobra Suzuka seat
Team Dynamic wheels 15x7 +25
Dunlop Direzza star specs 195/55/15
Carbotech brakes xp10's

Future:

What i would really like is some rear brakes next, and the chassis will be done. The only other thing i could want is a roll bar. Then, it may need some power, but thats starting to get pretty expensive. If the car drives as good as i think it will on a track, i think it would be totally worth it. another 50 hp would be solid... so a blitz supercharger, intake, and a good tune would probably do the trick. as it was before, without the LSD and stiffer springs, it was a shocker at the track, so i cant wait to see it now :)

hmm and a heck of a lot cheaper than coilovers too. You said you cut the rear just for the looks, but it wasn't necessary? I wonder what else would fit.

that is in-f*cking-credible... I was even looking around for GC coilovers for my yaris today.

has anyone come up with a solution to make the rear adjustable?... or can you use the rear honda fit sleve/spring combo?

e.g this kit?

yeah, that kit... the problem with the rear, is that the rear spring perch ends up too high. you may be able to use if you can get someone to send you some perches made for the yaris, like tein or megan.
