Unhappy Fuel indicator gone crazy

Hi Guys, I have faced a weird problem today. The fuel indicator had 3 bars on it but I decided to refuel it full. I turn the engine off while its refueling.

After refueling, I turned back ON the engine, I can see it full. Then suddenly, the bars went down one by one (each second) and finally to warning bar.

I cannot figure out whats the problem like, I have restarted car twice but to no success...Shall I give it a hard reset (like taking the battery wire out and pluggin it back)??

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks a lot for the reply..

Is it possible that the guy refueling it might have kept that thing so inside that it disturbed sender unit/fuel detecting mechanism.. Shall I give it a go at other petrol station to try moving mechanism with nozzle he inserts..

Or else I can be hopeful that it would go off with some refuel cycles..Would battery plugging/unplugging help?

You can try disconnecting the battery for a few seconds to make the instrument cluster fully reboot. If that doesn't help, and the level stays on the empty warning indication, then the sender may be contaminated and need cleaning. There is nothing that could be damaged while refueling (unless you got some really contaminated fuel).

Yeah, and just want you guys to know that fuel indicator got fine automatically this morning after about ~2 Km of driving. Levels back full. Really happy with Yaris' self-healing technology.

Although its around 90 km but not a single level down, I hope its stays working fine :P Thanks a lot for your support YarisWorld.
