On long/steep downhills, it's useful to maintain a proper coasting speed without playing with the brakes.

I'm at 190k right now with original front and rear. I know the rear is ready to be changed. I have not inspected the front, but I guess I should before buying pads. I came here trying to find out if I can use ceramic or not. I know that some rotors will wear too fast with ceramic.
Yeah, I use a lot of engine braking, and I like to coast a lot, as long as there is nobody behind me I'm going to coast to a stop as much as I can.

Yeah.... it all depend how one drives.
My '09 Yaris in now my retirement car and it is driven mainly around town.
So, I replaced just the front brake pads about a year ago.

FWIW.... I learned the hard way years ago the how long pads lasts depends on how you use them....... no hard, unnecessary "panic" stops, etc
