Have Insulation - Where should I stick it? (07 LB Road Noise Reduction)

Installing new head unit + speakers this week. Thinking now is a good time to do *some* road noise reduction.

I don’t care to gut the car and do it fully (at this point). Focus: easiest areas that make the biggest difference.

I have 2 types of padding on hand.

1) 80 mil sound deadening Noico. 36 sq ft
2) 2-faced foam padding like in pic below. It’s leftover from another non-car project and I have enough to wrap the whole car in it. Maybe 1/2” thick. Plastic barrier stuck to both sides.

Given the supplies above, where would you recommend putting them to reduce some road noise?

I know you said you did t wanna gut the car but if you remove the inside rear quarter panels, it exposes the outter sheet metal and wheel wells. I did this to one of my cars. I did the whole inner rear quarter, the wheel well and the trunk floor. Made a decent difference

I'm not against it if it makes a considerable difference. It does seem that a lot of road noise comes from that area, esp when the rear seats are tucked forward.

Safe to assume you ran it under the spare rather than laying it on top?

I actually just pulled those plastic panels out of my car hunting a pesky water leak. It only takes 10 minutes and it exposes a shitload of bare metal. Definitely a good place to start.

My whole car was gutted. I laid it everywhere there was metal. Did the entire floorpan from the pedals back, inner rear fenders, the wheel wells and the hatch. Some of these areas are double thick. I picked up another box to do the doors next spring.

Tip: if you're using the butyl stuff that you need a roller for, I highly suggest making your own roller from a metal castor and a threaded rod. The ones you buy online send to really suck and break easily. I made 2 different sizes and they worked great. Applying on a hot day helps with adhesion too.
