Pics of my old water pump out of the car showing where it leaks

This was a real hassel to do, at least 3 hours of labor for me. The bottom alternator bolt is really hard to get off. My back is quite sore, too.
Be sure to have 1/4 inch drive socket set handy. I also recommend a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench as some things are torqued to inch lbs.
I did'nt have to remove any tires or splash guards or touch any of the engine mounts either.
This is a pretty big job that requires concentration and having the RIGHT tools too. 12mm,10mm,14mm short and deep sockets are needed, 3/8" and 1/4" drives. A good 3/8"breaker bar for that stubborn bottom alt. bolt helps too.10mm,12mm and 14mm box end wrenches are a plus, especially the ratcheting style.
I don't recommend this job as one to "learn" how to work on cars for the first time or for a DIY rookie.
Now... on to the pics!

The way the lower weep hole is designed allows leaking coolant to build up in the chamber below it which is covered by the gold disk with the hole in the middle.
I guess it buys some time for a slow drip to go unnoticed so they don't have to change it until the port fills up enough to cause the coolant to flow out and then shoot around under the hood.

If thats the "leak" thats weird cause a water pump leak involves the seal around the shaft. How much was it leaking?

Not leaking bad. Just enough to leave a small spray under the hood.
There's a weep hole lying behind that cover plate on the pump where you see the pink stuff oozing from...

When they took the bad water pump out of my Yaris it looked like a colony of bees had constructed a pink beehive around the weep hole.

just wondering why you didn't go with the best NAPA water pump instead of replacing it with another Toyota pump, prices range from $63 to $72 for there best new pumps.

Anyone have any experience with these Altrom pumps? Doesn't make sense to replace a faulty Toyota pump with another faulty one. Maybe these Altroms are a better option.
