megan header issues

has anyone had trouble installing their megan header or and weird vibration noises afterwards? what happened to the thread that had the dyno results for the header?

if I'm not mistakin' in chris's diy you need to re-torque them there bolts shortly there after but I ain't no certified mechanic, it could be a cat hung up in there or somethin'

his exact words were "retorque to specs" and i couldnt find any specs so i just tightened the bolts. theres a brace on the lower en of the header that i was unable to put back on because the stock bolt didnt fit the megan header. the wonders of aftermarket parts. i think the lack of the brace is whats making it make the vibrating noise. maybe i dunno

Personally, after seeing the thread about the 'gains' from this header I opted out of it, but If I recall someone said megan sends the wrong size bolts, and they had to get some other size.

You should have gotten all the correct hardware for the install, if purchased from Megan. Seems all the "other" Megan sales people have been getting elsewhere, have had these issues with the hardware.
This may or not be the problem in your case, as I dont know where you got yours from.

The vibration is coming from the heat shield "shell" just above and around the collector area... take your finger and "flick" on edge of the shield, you will make the noise, and see how very flimsy it is.

Alotof people take it off, basically its just there to say, DONT TOUCH ME IM HOT, to prevent people who dont know how hot the exhaust gets from touching it.

Thats not the part I am talking about. You are refering to the heat shield bolted to the stock header. Re-read my post, I am talking about the reflective heat shield (attached inside the tunnel) at the collector area. This keeps the floor board from transfering heat from the exhaust, into the car.

The heat shield on the stock header will not, and is not, designed to fit the Megan Header.

my Megan header did not come with the correct bolts. Fortunately, my friend at the shop had the correct size.

hells yea. high five. thats what i had to do and since we were in my friends shop we did the same thing. i'm probably going to take off that heat shield thats above the collector area. wont hurt anything i suppose.

while looking at the engine in my friends place today the shop manager said my engine was shaking too much and that it looked like my engine was miss firring. but it looked normal to me and if it was miss firring wouldnt it set a code, or wouldnt i feel or hear something as a result of it miss firring?

It would be unusual for it to misfire, and yes, it would throw a CEL if it did it. Toyota's intelligent tester tool would be able to tell you exactly if that is the problem, so if in doubt, go to your toyota service center and ask them to check it out. My guess is, because of the low idle of the engine, it could look like it's shaking, once it's warmed up. You could always invest in a torque damper, that will keep things in place

Those with hardware issues.. were did you order yours from?

I know of knowone from the original Megan GB way back when, reporting any issues. Wondering what's going on over at Megan, or whoever builds these for them. Sucks.
