Spot the Fake

I've heard if it, first time seeing it.

Rear wheel disc brakes? Or, maybe it's a conversion?

Yup, fake...no caliper...

Yeah I saw that, but I've seen those before (although never on a Yaris). I figure OP is seeing something more subtle.

European build 2.nd gen cars with a displacement of 1.3l or higher all have discs.
The 1l engine car is the only french build car with drums from what i know.

edit. The model variant "Luna" had discs for the 1l as well. Only the basic no extras at all model had drums :D

I feel that you may be right.

It's gotta be the fake rear discs. That's hilarious. I'm okay with visual only mods, but that's too much.

If that is in fact what we are talking about I'm surprised you guys haven't seen these before. They're not uncommon. Especially a few years ago, when more cars had rear drums, you would see them frequently. I agree they are absolutely ridiculous. It seems to appeal to a certain type, you know those guys running around with permanently mounted tow hooks, etc.

But I'm still not convinced that that is what WeeYari is referring to.

This is in cosmetic modifications. I'm pretty sure that's what Wee is referring to.

That's worse than the "big brake kit" caliper covers!

ugh, not a fan of these types of "mods" if you even want to call them that. I'm all for to each their own but these are just cringe worthy

Beautifully maintained 2010 Blizzard Pearl RS, tastefully lowered, decent wheels and yup, fake rear discs.

This is probably my favourite colour and trim offering of all North American Yaris. The only thing better are the stouter JDM/Euro spec bumpers. I'll forgive the owner of this one if the fakes are purely a desperate attempt to hide rusty drums.

fake discs? and wagon wheels

photo looks to me like someone painted a drum silver.
why would anyone want wheels that reveal the brakes anyway?

More reveal typically also means more efficient cooling. Plus a well painted brakes set up and clean rotors I personally don't think looks too bad.

I was sorta joking there about the reveal...though none of mine do.

Nope. If you zoom on the pick you'll see it is a larger diameter than a drum and, has drill holes to mimic a drilled disc. It is also far shinier than any paint would produce. It's pretty much a glorified wheel spacer.
