I know where you're coming from - I had a Miata for six months during a temporary assignment to the West Coast back in 1993. I have to say though that a tiny car with a big moonroof is mighty close.

PS There are several Miata clubs in Toronto including the Miataphiles who's club credo is= An informal group of young Toronto Miataphiles... 100+ and going strong... No rules, no political B.S. or correctness, no president, no dues, no corner left un-bruised. This is not a mid-life-crisis car... this is a hardcore, fun-as-hell lifestyle... We do what we want, when we want... We drive hard, play hard, race hard and talk a big game... All disputes settled with 4 simple words... Line It Up Beeatch! |

Yeah....and deal with the Snap Oversteer the S2000 is notorious for. Have you ever seen the S2000s at autocross events...It's a spinfest. Get the car that started it all. Who knows maybe ina few years you can get collector car insurance on it and pay 600 dollars a year in insurance. Parts for the miata are a lot cheaper and more plentiful.

Either an S2000 or Miata are great convertible choices.
Although I like the Mini convertible, they're expensive little buggers. I think you get more for your money with a Miata or the S2000. Just my two cents.

Forget the Mini - unreliable germn engineering. Forget the S2000 500 lbs heavier than your Yaris spoils the fun. Look at the MR2 Spyder and the Miata, I am torn between which one to get. You can by a 95 Miata for $3k add 3$ for a turbo and $1500 for a suspension and have and absolute road killer that is OBDI semi emmsisions legal), but it doesn;t look as nice as the Spyder. The olnly was to make the Spyder fast and emmissions legal is a 2ZZ swap which sets you back $7k, bu yo probably don't need the extra pwer with that car anyhow.
But forget te mini, I'ved owned 6 german cars, everyone spent at least a month in the shop a year (cummulative.)I had a 6 series BMW that drove like a dream but the repair bills doing my own work were astronomical. |
