I've seen some pics and read about some people who removed the flooring insulation in their yaris' and was wondering if it is a difficult task...

So, anyone who has removed some interior stuff, chime in...

I'm looking for something cheap to do with the car this week, and this should be free I'm hoping...

Sounds easy enough, I saw some pics of it on here somewhere. Why do yoi want to remove the insulation? Installing Dynamat, or something similar? I would love to take my ENTIRE interior out, and dynamat the living hell out of it.. it rattles constantly.

I don't know if I want to do it at all actually... I am interested in hearing how hard or easy it was for others to do it though. And i MAY want to do it....

Never done it in a Yaris but to get the sticky sound deadener out, I heard of using dry ice.

You have to at least take the front seats out and probably the back seat too. There isn't much insulation and I don't know why you'd want to remove it. I added sound deadening throughout and also added some more padded insulation to keep the noise levels down.

There are pads beneath the driver and passenger side floorboards, and on the floor boards of the rear.

yea there is really not that much and once you remove it becomes loud and annoying. get ready to hear every pebble hit the floor. I wouldnt recomend it for a daily driver. I drove the yaris with everythig but the dash and seats out down to san Deigo and the whole trip down and loud, i had to turn the radio way up just to not be annoyed

I just found the insulation at the bottom of the firewall installing a keyless entry system... Looks like crap. Hopefully it doesn't start falling out over time...

I had to remove mine due to it becoming waterlogged when I forgot to close a window all the way in a rainstorm

There are different types of insulation under the floor carpet. One is a fluffy kind that is basically glued to the bottom of the floor carpet, the other are blocks of what I can best describe as a fabric foam, which are not glued down at all.

Getting to those, though, is a bit tricky, as you need to lift off the carpet lining. For the back it's easy enough, remove the back seats as well as the bottom frame. Also, you need to pop out the door jamb protector (no idea how this is on a 3-door, though), and you can pull up the carpet from the back.

Because I did not have access to a properly-sized wrench, and planned on removing the carpet completely at the back, I did just hack it up with a box cutter

The bottom piece is the carpet viewed from the bottom, with the glued-on fluffy insulation I mentioned.

Here's a picture of the results, yes it was definitely a hack job

For the front footwells, it's even easier. You do not need to remove the seats (unless you want to remove the carpet totally), just take out the door sill pieces, the center plastic console where the handbrake is (just one bolt in the bottom of the back cupholder), and you can unhook it and peel it from the front. I don't have any pics but it's the same setup of foam blocks. I removed those but kept the carpet up front.

That's really what I love about this car, it's very easy to take it apart and mess with it as you like

Word of warning though, driving around with nothing in the back and no insulation, does sound like you're driving with the windows down permanently, not for the faint-hearted... but I like it raw!

I like it raw....Since i did this in my 2nd miata(to make it lighter) I would assume you are going to do it to save weight...Right?

Believe it or not my exhaust gets more annoying with the seat in the back has a deep resoance in the cabin and really quite buzzy inside.
