Question Have engine knocking noise, assume it's lifters, but...

When the serpentine belt squeals the knocking noise disappears. Is that normal? 2010 Toyota Yaris.

With the belt off, check all the pulleys for the water pump, air, conditioner, and alternator for play side to side.

Good luck and tell us what happens!

I found out what it was today. Turns out the AC compressor has gone bad. I did notice that the AC was doing a terrible job last summer, so I suppose it makes sense. It's a pricey fix, but better than knocking lifters I guess haha.

Thanks for getting back to us. How much is the fix and what exactly is involved?

Good luck!

make sure you replace expansion valve and receiver dryer too, metal shavings are probably clogging the system
