Exclamation New car smell is bad for you

Anybody heard of this before? This is certainly news to me:

That "new car smell" can be hazardous to your health, The Ecology Center, a Berkeley, Calif., environmental group said. The Ecology Center said toxic chemicals such as bromine, chlorine and lead found in cars' interiors give off harmful fumes for three years, the Chicago Tribune reported.

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/55237.html

The site HealthyCar.org rates the Yaris a 3.4 / 5.0 score, which is apparently quite high. And I thought the new car smell was something that you'd like to keep in your car!

Here are a couple of more links for those interested in learning more about this health issue:So remember kids: If you wanna inhale, do it the smart(er) way...

I wear a protective mask in my car and a helmet. You can never be too safe.

Shocking that Berkeley would have something bad to say about cars.

From the Yahoo article:
Quote:
ABC News explains that the new car smell may cause "headaches, sore throat, nausea, and possibly cancer."
Ah, well... At least it smells good!

I had the new car smell in mine for a couple of weeks... then got the stereo system changed, seats changed, etc, and ended up with more of a sweaty mechanic smell

Its amazing how people survived before, in such a toxic world. Now that the government knows about the horrible new car smell, from 2009 and on, new cars will smell like all natural dog shyte.
