clutch replacement

Just wondering how long a clutch replacement usually takes on a yaris I'm changing mine on saturday due to my input shaft seal leaking and soaking my clutch. Also once you get the subframe out of the way how much room do you have to work? I'll be working on a rack with a trans jack so it should make it a little easier.

Doubt anyone's changed theirs. Most members with high mileage report no problems. Even the member with over 400,000 miles. How many miles on yours?

you might want to PM Cali_Yaris (Garm). He has had plenty of experience as I believe he may have upgraded his a couple times.

75k and the oldest one is only 3 years old so that could be the lack of clutch replacement. I'm going with an aftermarket sachs I hate the stock clutch it engages within like 3mm its like an on off switch.

Just curious but do any of you have problems when shifting to reverse? Sometimes I get a weird noise when shifting to reverse and sometimes it's harder than other times even though the clutch is pressed all the way. Any inputs?

just got my 2007 yaris sedan about a week now, and i noticed the same thing.. i thought that there might be something wrong with the clutch/tranny.. hmm but it seems like almost everyone's experiencing it.

Please see this video:
"Manual Transmission: Avoid Reverse Gear Grind"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN5fgRFTqys

The reason is simple: the reverse gear does not has a synchronizer. Therefore, you can simply put it in the 1st gear to synchronize, then shift into the reverse gear. I have tried this trick, and it works!

Any gear other than 2nd will do the trick, right?

^ there are a few threads on this...many people have "upgraded" their tranny fluid in their manual Yarii to a synthetic like Redline 90MT or another 75-90 weight Synth. If you perform a search for it you will possibly find what you are talking about. I ordered the Redline fluid yesterday.

I did the MT90 "upgrade" a couple of weeks ago and it makes shifting easier and much smoother, but the reverse issue is still there sometimes.

I have found that putting it into 2nd before Reverse helps A LOT. I only struggle with reverse occasionally know after figuring that out. lol

I can't find the thread now, but when mine was brand new I heard & felt a strange noise sometimes after the car had sat overnight, when I first tried to put the gear in reverse. Now I move the gear to first gear, then reverse and I've not heard it since.

Here it is, it's the CLUNK!

I believe the manual says that if the reverse is hard to get into, you should let the clutch out quickly and momentarily and let it move the gears, then try again.

Yeah, I just think that reverse is closer in than we are used to as well.

If you place the shifter in reverse, try to place it very close to 4th. If you swing it to far out, that is when I have the most issues getting it in.

And I am sure it not having synchros has something to do with it not engaging fully down, but it still goes into reverse most times. Occassionaly I will get a grind.

Yeah same here with the grid. I just hate that feeling. I have never had that in a car before.
