I agree the OEM tach is the only way to make it look right. I would think the dealer would have no problem installing it for you as taking it to the dealer is really the only correct way to swap a cluster. Don't let them charge you for over 1 hour of labor though, the cluster comes out super easy...

I found out the list price is around $780, 09' S-LB (USA) . I did not ask about mileage reprogram but they told me 20% restocking charge.
Can we host a chip-in pot for this project if restocking apply?? (j/k, Ill wait!) I dropped by the dealer 2 weeks ago but did not see any 09' model yet, and talking about this cluster at parts counter is kind of vague for now. (I actually called in the wholesale line with my company account). Last edited by JosephDoc; 11-05-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

I am not even sure if the wholesale guy @ dealer knew what he was checking on. He sounded like "huh? wtf??" over the phone. |

i got off the phone with toyota now they said 480 for the cluster. 10% restock fee and they would have to program it as well. of course i get decent pricing as my company has a parts account with them.

hmm... we should get more phone calls and find out the part number to compare. I am almost there just want to order one and see if it works or not.

they MIGHT or might not have the tools to set the mileage on those things.
i believe the mileage on a cluster is HARD WRITTEN for security reasons, so that nobody in ANY way can modify the mileage on a cluster. BUT... anyone mind telling me why you would worry so much about what's written on the ODO ? |

Because if you report your mileage incorrectly, it's considered fraud, I believe.

Because if you're selling the car through a private party sale, then you could tell them the odometer reading, they'll read it on the odometer in the dash, and they'll take your word for it even if it's incorrect. Average individuals do not have the tools to compare the odometer reading to the reading in the internal computer before they purchase the car, or even after.

You could also possibly run into warranty issues as well if the mileage on the odometer doesn't match up with the internal computer. It is FRAUD to tamper with these things and not have the proper paperwork for it.

how about swapping in a 235k miles 1nz engine in there? with the original cluster? :D
on a side note: toyota dealers here puts a sticker (i think it's government issued, i'm not sure as i never really looked at it) it writes the mileage the engine was swapped. i believe they do the same with clusters. someone should short circuit their cluster, and tell me what their dealer actually do :) |

Mileage is kept in the ECU. Dash swaps do not affect it.
