Question CAN TOYOTA RETROFIT NON-FIXED REAR WINDOW?

The main thing that I don't like about the Yaris is that the rear window doesn't open independently of the hatchback door.

Because I would be saving so much money if I bought a Yaris over a more expensive "green" car, I wouldn't mind throwing in an extra grand (or whatever it may cost???) to get the rear window modified at the factory so that it would be hinged & able to be manually opened (I'm guessing it would cost way too much money to make it electronically open).

Can anyone venture a guess if modifying the rear window to open manually would be possible for a thousand dollars or so?

Or would it cost a lot more?

Has anyone heard of this kind of thing being done at a reasonable cost?

Thanks !

Well as far as I know it is not a standard feature on any model of Yaris anywhere in the world, so that would be a completely custom job, and the dealership is probably not the cheapest place to ask for this kind of work

Practically it should just be a matter of detaching the glass panel and putting on a set of hinges and a latch, and ensuring it stays waterproof, so I don't see it costing all that much except for labor.

a hammer would be all you need... just start whacking haha hahaha (these smiley options always make me laugh) anyways it can probably be done, depending on how nicely you want the install to look, but as was mentioned earlier fix some hinges on the glass along with some gas struts, biggest thing that will keep you back is a way to lock the glass in place. I would see what the older civic hatches use, as far as hardware and then I would go from there.
